Hello everyone! Welcome to the latest installment of the Texas Standard Possession Order breakdown. While January and February were relatively simple months, March brings additional complexity due to spring break schedules. As we move into the spring months—April, May, and beyond—there will be more holidays and important deadlines to keep in mind, including the summer possession notification deadline in April. Let’s dive into March 2025.
March 2025 Possession Schedule
As always, custodial parents are shown in blue, non-custodial parents in yellow, and holidays in red on the calendar. March is unique because it includes spring break, which follows different schedules depending on school districts. We’ll go through a few different scenarios to cover various possibilities.
Scenario 1: Spring Break is March 10th – 14th
If your child’s school district has spring break during this week, here’s how possession will be structured:
Thursday Possession for Non-Custodial Parent:
March 6th
March 20th
March 27th
Spring Break Possession:
The custodial parent will have possession starting when school dismisses on Friday, March 7th, until Sunday, March 16th.
The custodial parent also has possession for the Monday–Wednesday following spring break (March 17th–19th).
Weekend Possession for Non-Custodial Parent:
Only the third Friday of the month: March 21st.
Scenario 2: Spring Break is March 3rd – 7th
If spring break is scheduled earlier in the month, here’s how the schedule shifts:
Custodial Parent’s Extended Possession:
Begins on Friday, February 28th, and continues through Sunday, March 9th.
The custodial parent naturally retains possession on March 10th–12th, so it forms one continuous period.
Thursday Possession for Non-Custodial Parent:
March 13th
March 20th
March 27th
Weekend Possession for Non-Custodial Parent:
Only the third Friday of the month: March 21st.
Scenario 3: Spring Break is March 17th – 21st
If your child’s school district schedules spring break later in the month, here’s how possession is impacted:
Thursday Possession for Non-Custodial Parent:
March 6th
March 13th
March 27th
Spring Break Possession:
Custodial parent takes possession when school dismisses on Friday, March 14th, through Sunday, March 24th.
Weekend Possession for Non-Custodial Parent:
First Friday of the month: March 7th.
The third Friday (March 21st) is forfeited due to the custodial parent’s spring break possession.
Final Thoughts
March is a tricky month due to varying school schedules for spring break. Non-custodial parents should note that regardless of when spring break occurs, they will only have one weekend period of possession in March. Be sure to check your local school district’s calendar to determine when your child’s spring break falls.
Looking ahead, stay tuned for the April video and breakdown, which will be released mid-March. April is particularly important, as the deadline to select a custom summer possession schedule is April 1st. You’ll want to have that information in advance if you plan to make any adjustments.
Thanks for following along, and I’ll see you next month!
